Security in Texas prisons
My classmate Jen had a very valid argument about security in Texas prisons.

Texas Loophole in the Judicial System
A travisty is being committed in the state of Texas, concerning illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes and being deported before being prosecuted. There appears to be a loophole in the judicial system that is not only allowing these violent criminals to escape prosecution, but also allow bail bondsmen who help these immigrant's receive their reimbursement. What is happening, is illegal immigrants are using bail bondsmen to post bail on crimes as severe as murder and sexual assault. These same criminals are then being deported before they can ever be prosecuted for the crime in which bail was posted. The biggest injustice of all is that the bail bondsman who willing an knowingly post bail for the immigrant criminals, are using a loophole (form 17.16a) which allows them to be reimbursed for the bail money on criminals who are deported before their court date. This exploitation allows not only for criminals to post bail and get out of the country before being brought to justice, but also allows corrupt bail bondmen to turn a profit on the State's tab. How long can this be overlooked before a stop is put to it. Not only should these immigrants be forced to reap what they sew, the bail bondsmen turning profits should be forced to forfeit the money they put up "in good faith" as well as, face some sort of repercussion themselves.

Hutchinson Doesn't Know What She Wants
Instead of dropping out of the Senate for the Republican primaries for governor, Hutchinson has decided to stay until March of 2010. She feels there are several "important issues facing Congress for her to quit this fall as she had originally planned" from an article in the Eagle. Perhaps she thinks its her dire duty to the state of Texas to make these important decisions since a newly appointed senator could not do the deed. Are things looking up for the longest served governor in Texas, Rick Perry? I think so. Just by not showing up to the primaries could be the last straw for some Texans who would have voted for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. Of course Rick Perry is going to support her in the Senate stating "Hopefully this will allow her to be a full-time senator for the people of Texas." He would probably like her to stay there because she is one the most applicable candidate to run for Texas governor. This is a huge move for the Texas governor campaign.

Chuck "HOP"son hops from Democratic Party to Republican
In this article is definitely partisan which is not necessarily a bad thing. The point is that Hopson, former Democrat, is wanting to change sides and run as a Republican candidate. The Republicans are not so happy about him "hiding" himself in the party when he had scored a 39 on the YCT legislative rating and is liberal. The author does have a point when he states that there have been several Republican candidates from Texas rise and become very popular. Obviously the Republican party does not want this happening for Chuck Hopson because of his liberal views. The author has some very candid points when describing the reasoning behind him wanting to switch parties and the downfalls it could have on the Republican party. Therefore, this is a well written blog.

The reality behind "post-partisanship"
I think this article from the Dallas Times Newspaper is very nonpartisan, neutral, and factual. This article is meant for both parties. Although the author stays unanimous in naming they seem somewhat knowledgeable in politics. The author is basically saying that although "change" was promised a year ago, nothing has really changed and both parties are pretty fed up with it. The author also states that even throughout parties there are divisions which makes it very hard for "change" when no one can agree on anything, even the President. I like how the author criticized both parties on how they aren't making the process easier. For the Democrats they can't agree on anything and for the republicans they are so focused on anti-Obama they don't want to focus on what needs to be done. I absolutely love the quotation the author uses about the President's political ideals, stated "the greatest risk we can take is to try the same old politics with the same old players and expect a different result." To sum everything up the author's point is that although its been a year not a lot has changed and both parties are somewhat to blame for it, which could be a reason why the polls are showing a decrease in the President's approval rate.

Texas Amendments: Go Vote!
There are eleven new proposed Texas constitutional amendments that are being voted on November 3rd, 2009. If some propositions are passed it could change several things including governments taking of private property, allow a military veteran to hold office, and allow the legislature to provide for ad valorem taxation of a residence homestead solely on the basis of the property's value as a residence, not at the potentially higher commercial use value. News 8 Austin describes each individual proposition that is on the table and allows you to research which proposition that has been controversial. This article is important and everybody should read this because there could actually be changes that could affect Texas citizens. It is also a good way to resist change or pursue it just by going out and voting. The website even has an online poll of the top amendments that could pass or make the most change in Texas that you can vote for as well. See everybody on November 3rd, a list of voting areas can be found here.
